Because of inclement weather, the work has yet to begin on the parking lots.  When the work begins, we can expect 2-3 days.  Please just stand by and be prepared for parking adjustments and access for loading and building entrance, especially if you are a MOW volunteer.  The lots will be repaired, topped and relined.  This work is being planned by our Trustees.  This is all pending the proper weather conditions.

Next Weekend, Aug. 20-21, is the UMW Mission Weekend.  They will be collecting sugar-free cookies for the diabetic clients of Meals on Wheels.  There will also be a basket in the Narthex for monetary donations.  Thank you for always supporting this and all of the UMW mission projects.

Tim Durant, Treasurer and the Finance Committee are looking for a 4-drawer locking file cabinet that can be moved into the spare office for the work of the Treasurer.  If you have one that you are no longer using or know of family or friend wanting to “unload” one, please call the church office.  Thank you.

CH Church Mouse Program – The Outreach Committee is restarting the “Church Mouse” program this Fall with Linda Vota in the lead.  This program is a secret pen pal communication to our college students and young military youth.  The idea is to send greeting cards, notes of encouragement, little trinket gifts, candy or snacks that the youth can find in their mailbox while they are away just to remind them that we miss them and they are loved.  We are looking for names of    students and military.  There is a “piece of cheese” in the Narthex, please sign the sheets and drop in the box or give to Linda.  You can also call the church office.  Linda is also looking for “Mice” to help with the project.  Please see Linda Vota for questions.   Linda is having a meeting of anyone interested in being a MOUSE on Tuesday, August 16th at 6:00 pm.

Saturday, September 10th 10:00AM - 2:00PM for our Fall Sewing-With-A-Purpose gathering.  The ladies will be working on many projects-dresses, mastectomy bags & pillows and diaper gift bags for Magee Hospital.  Kits will be ready; all you need is white thread with loaded bobbins, a bag lunch and a happy spirit. All are welcome; bring a friend, sewers and non-sewers are welcome - there is something for everyone.  There is a sign-up sheet in the Narthex.  The fabric & materials for the mastectomy bags is more expensive than some of the other projects and must be purchased.  The ladies are asking for donations to help cover the cost of the fabric.  If you would like to donate, please place your donations in a separate envelope and mark it for the Sewing project.  Thank you.

The following dates are still available on the 2022 Flower Calendar:  August 21; September 11, 18, 25; October 2, 9; November 6.  Please fill in your name on the calendar on the bulletin board outside of the office if you would like to place the flowers on the altar in honor or in memory of a friend or loved one.  I will follow up a few weeks prior with a note and envelope for payment-$20 for both bouquets.

“Sweet Hour of Prayer” – continues every Wednesday from 6:00-7:00 pm.  Have you always wanted to deepen your prayer life, but find that no matter how hard you try distractions tear you away?  Our sanctuary will be open for silent prayer.  Come for a few minutes or come for the whole hour.  There will be no formal agenda, simply an intentional environment for you to speak to and listen to God without any distractions.  The altar candles will be lit, inviting the Holy Spirit to meet us during this time.  Soft instrumental music will be played.  We ask you to arrive and leave in silence out of respect for others.  A praying church is a powerful church!

Summer in the Psalms—So many of you have mentioned to Rev. Janet how much you appreciate having a Bible study guide.  Summer is a great time to carve out a few minutes each day to get in touch with God.  Available in the Narthex (will also be included in the Highlander and attached to this weekly email) is a day- by- day guide for reading through all 150 Psalms this summer.  Some days you will read 2 or 3, other days just 1.  The study guide begins on June 1.  And if you get behind, you can simply pick up on another day.  Every Psalm has something to offer and there is a Psalm for every situation you may encounter.  Spend some time this summer with God and your Bible.
