A HUGE THANK YOU from the Trustees to the over 25 people who came out last Saturday for the Church Work Day.  The Sanctuary is sparkling and cleaned from top to bottom; mulch was spread in the beds around the building; sidewalks powerwashed; painting projects; many of the much needed maintenance items were accomplished.  Because of last week’s rain, the top soil could not be delivered and spread on some problem areas.  Help will be required to complete that project when the rain subsides.  Thanks to all!

Rev. Janet Lord invites you to consider attending, either live or by live-stream (registration required), informational sessions regarding the Wesleyan Covenant Association, the proposed Global Methodist Church and general information regarding the current issues facing our denomination.  The sessions will take place on May 15 and 16 at two different locations.  Please see the attached Flyer for more details or contact Janet.  Copies of the flyer will also be in the Narthex.

CALLING ALL VOLUNTEERS - Karen Prescott has volunteered to head a committee to plan and implement some Summer activities for Children and Youth.  Possibilities include a “VBS” mini series or “summer camp” that can be held mostly outdoors (for COVID safety), some picnic/firepit activities for youth and families-anything the committee can create to “re-activate” our children & youth programs at CHCUMC.  This committee would also plan and strategize about what our Children’s Ministries and Sunday Schools can look like in the Fall.  Please consider being a part of this important planning process.  Our future depends on young families and children/youth involvement.  We miss seeing all the young ones in our midst.  There will be a sign up sheet in the Narthex, if you can help.  Please see Karen or call the church office if you have any questions.

“SWEET HOUR OF PRAYER” - On Wednesday evenings this summer, beginning on Wednesday, June 2 our sanctuary will be open from 6:00 – 7:00 PM for silent prayer.  Come for a few minutes or come for the whole hour.  There will be no formal agenda, simply an intentional environment for you to speak to and listen to God without any distractions.  The altar candles will be lit, inviting the Holy Spirit to meet us during this time.  Soft instrumental music will be played.  We ask you to arrive and leave in silence out of respect for others.  Rev. Janet Lord is coordinating.

GRADUATE RECOGNITION - We plan to honor our Graduates on Sunday, June 6th  @ 10:00 am.  All 2021 High School, College, Post Grads, Technical Training Schools and any other Graduates from our church family – children, grandchildren will be honored.  Any questions, please call 412-751-0511.   Graduate bio forms will be available in the Narthex and attached to the weekly emails in May.  If possible, please submit a photo of your graduate.

SUMMER SUNDAYS - The Church Council met on April 27th to discuss the options for our Summer Worship.  It was decided by Council that beginning Sunday, May 30th (Memorial Day Weekend) we will be having Sunday Worship Services outside on the lawn at 10:00 am.  Like last summer, we will be situated on the lawn outside of the Fellowship Hall side of the building.  Bring a chair and sit under the trees and enjoy God’s handiwork.  We will also reserve parking spaces for those who wish to remain in their vehicles.  Online options will still be available for live streaming and/or posted video.  In the event of inclement weather, we will now have the option to worship in the sanctuary.  Many of the same safety restrictions will be in place regarding distancing, attendance taking, etc.  Please plan to join us on the lawn this Summer and enjoy the breezes!  More details to follow.

SUMMER BIBLE READING - COMING NEXT MONTH!! – Rev. Janet has developed a Summer Bible Reading Outline that begins on June 6th.  Copies are available in the Narthex and a file will be forwarded via the weekly email this month.  Lay out on the chaise lounge with an iced tea each day and open your Bible!

Volunteers needed to learn the process of “Live Streaming” our Worship Services.  David Herrington has been doing a tremendous job of bringing in all the technology and “smarts” to enable those viewing at home to participate in the worship service live.  David would love to have a few interested parties to shadow him and learn how to run the computer set up for live streaming.  David and Jennifer will be having a few weeks of vacation over the summer and will need some volunteer support.  Please contact the office if you are willing or see David on Sundays.

Meals on Wheels could use your help – there is a current need for kitchen help on Mondays; but always in all areas of the operation.  You can volunteer a few hours a week or a month, but you will be rewarded when you see the far reach of this program.  Also, when you are speaking with family, friends and neighbors, don’t forget about the services of the MOW Program.  Meals can be provided daily, a few times a week, on a temporary basis following an illness or long term.  The price is $4.00 per day which provides a hot, freshly cooked delicious meal and bagged items including milk – all delivered right to the doorstep.  Please contact Linda (412) 751-2230 or Suzie (412) 751-0511 if you can help in any way – driver, runner, kitchen help or if you would like to add a client for delivery.

Birthday Celebrations this week: May 6th – Tony Barr.  May 8th – Tracy Thornton, Mike Puskaric.  May 10th – Suzie Gibbons.  May 11th – Chriatian Guinto Brody.  May 12th – Jan Armbruster.  May 15th – John DeMarco, Sandra McCall.   A very Happy Birthday to all!!

Ruth & Jack Brothers will be celebrating their 72nd Wedding Anniversary on May 11th.  Let’s let them know we are thinking of them by showering them with Anniversary greetings.  Ruth is also recovering from a shoulder injury.  459 Simpson Howell Rd., Elizabeth 15037.

Thank yous received this week:

To my friends at Central Highlands,

I’m sorry to be so overdue in sending this note.  First of all, thank you all for the constant flow of calls, cards, and messages in concern of me.  It has been awesome.  The sling was removed on Monday and I was told that because of the type and the location of the break and previous breaks in the same arm and age, I cannot expect full recovery of the use in that arm.  Good thing I’m right handed!!  There is some discomfort – not unbearable.

I’m getting used to my new abode – have met a lot of new people.  Visitors are welcome!  My new address:  Terrace Place at Vencentian, 9399 Babcock Blvd, Apt. 312, Allison Park, PA 15101.  Phone is the same (412) 751-7031.

Through the internet, I keep connected in happenings.  Thank you all for everything.

Don Ulbrich
